The village next door
When one door closes, a colorful one opens!
Yesterday, I ventured out to a beautiful neighboring village called Frigiliana with an Airbnb experience I booked. The name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but eventually I got the pronunciation right. It resembles Santorini with its white buildings nestled on the hillside with gorgeous views of the sea. The vibrant colored doors keep you motivated as you navigate up cobblestone stairs throughout the village.
We trekked up above the village into the scenic nature reserve for a short hike. Funny enough the mountains are called the Sierra Nevada Mountains! Another reason Andalusia resembles California (many people say that the climate and landscape in the south of Spain are very comparable to California). However these Sierra Nevadas never see snow. They stay green all year long.
The path was a bit precarious, but an adventure for sure! There was a fence halfway protecting you from rolling down the mountain, but the guide said they “ran out of budget” halfway down the trail. The trail follows a small trench with water that the Arabs originally built when they inhabited the land centuries ago and created a 9 kilometer aqueduct to get water from the limestone of the mountains into the village. So impressive.
After the half day hike and exploration of Frigiliana, I asked the guide to drop me off in a neighboring beach town called Nerja that a local lady recommended I visit. A few other people decided hop off the van and join me. We ate an incredible Italian lunch together and drank wine with a spectacular view. Then it was home for the night to write a little, watch Netflix and have a cup of tea in my cozy room before bed. All in all, another fantastic day in Andalusia!
