Third tattoo’s the charm
Before my tattoo…
I’m about to get a new tattoo! I have thought about this one for a few months and decided I wanted to get it in one of my happiest places on earth, besides Disneyland, España.
I actually wanted this tattoo since I was 18. But I’m glad I chicken’d out at the tattoo shop in San Diego when my dorm mate from SDSU got a dove in the middle of her low back. I was going to get “shalom” in Hebrew on my foot. However, today I have a better placement for it and it means a lot more to me now. Not only does it represent my Jewish roots. But it represents the actual shalom God has given me after two years on my own. The only two years not in an enmeshed or codependent relationship in my entire life.
Sitting in a café down the street from the Soho Málaga tattoo shop, I am writing my thoughts out before I go in. Feeling so relaxed and content. It’s such a feeling of peace, the kind of peace “shalom” represents. True peace that only God can give. The perfect timing for this.
After my tattoo…
I absolutely love it. It feels like it belongs on my body. I now have three tiny tats. They are like passport stamps signifying where I have been. All in 3 different cities by 3 different artists at 3 very different places in my life: Seattle, Hollywood and now Málaga.
Quick side note: I am grateful to live in a time where women are empowered to express themselves. It isn’t lost on me that years ago this wasn’t a possibility for women.
Also, it’s really meaningful to me. All of it. This place and time in my life and the tattoo to remember it, and especially to remember to seek the shalom only God can give. 10/10 I recommend getting a meaningful tattoo on your travels!
